A Legacy of Capturing Life: The Frasher Family Journey

Frashers Fotos traces its roots back to 1907, when Burton Frasher, Sr. founded the studio, blending his passions for family, travel, fishing, and the beautiful landscapes of the American West. Initially balancing his love for photography with a career as a box maker in the agricultural sector, Burton laid the groundwork for a legacy that would span generations.

Adventures on the Open Road

In 1912, Burton married Josephine, and together they embarked on thrilling adventures. Riding his Indian motorcycle with Josephine in the sidecar, Burton would often carry his large format camera along for the ride. His early photographs of the American Southwest and everyday life in the early 20th century have been celebrated through countless postcards, magazines, and books. Unlike his contemporaries, such as Ansel Adams and Edward Weston, who focused primarily on landscapes, Burton’s work documented the vibrant tapestry of American life from the 1920s through the 1950s, capturing the evolving scenes of the era.

The Second Generation

Burton Frasher Jr. joined the family business at a young age, exploring the West alongside his parents. Their travels, often by foot or horseback, were enriched by a portable darkroom, allowing them to document the diverse landscapes and intimate moments of life. With the rise of the automobile, Burton Jr. became a renowned commercial photographer in his own right with images that documented the variety and natural wonders that America had to offer, eventually taking the helm of Frashers Fotos following his father’s passing in 1955. He continued to uphold the family tradition, bringing in family members and further establishing the business until his death in 1992.

Continuing the Tradition

Christopher Frasher, the third generation of this passionate family, embarked on his photography journey after studying at the Brooks Institute of Photography and learning from seasoned mentors. In 1976, he opened his first studio in Yucca Valley, California, where he began to take over the family business. With over 35 years of experience, Christopher has dedicated himself to capturing quality photographs of people, events, families, and sports across Southern and Central California. Today, he continues to create cherished memories for clients from both the Yucca Valley and San Luis Obispo locations, ensuring the Frasher family legacy thrives through each photograph taken.
